Karen Morrison

Karen Morrison is a beauty and fashion film director, executive producer, and journalist, and the founder of MODTV. A former Contributing Editor at Allure, Condé Nast, she is known for behind-the-scenes, vérité-style storytelling — revealing the creative process behind fashion and beauty through backstage films, brand campaigns, and original documentaries.

Her production credits include Allure Backstage (2001–2008), the television series she directed and executive produced for Allure, Condé Nast, hosted by Founding Editor-in-Chief Linda Wells, and Allure Backstage The Look Of (2009–2015), winner of two Honorary Webby Awards (2012, 2014) for Online Film & Video.

Her brand work spans behind-the-scenes films and global campaigns for Tom Ford Beauty, L’Oréal Paris, and Maybelline New York. Since 2000, she has documented the artistry of Dame Pat McGrath, capturing her work backstage at Anna Sui, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Maison Margiela, and Louis Vuitton, and creating and directing the Pat McGrath Labs Brand Essentials film.

Karen was Series Producer of Fashion File, the global fashion TV series, and later created the MODTV Fashion Video Podcast, praised by Vogue UK and Harper’s Bazaar. She served as Series Consultant on the Emmy-nominated docuseries Victoria’s Secret: Angels & Demons, which also licensed footage from her Fashion Film Archive, a private collection of backstage fashion film spanning the 1990s to today, also licensed for the fashion documentaries Kingdom of Dreams and In Vogue: The 90s.

Karen has reported backstage at fashion weeks in New York, Milan, and Paris, producing programs and mini-documentaries on many of fashion’s defining figures, including John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Tom Ford, Olivier Rousteing, Gisele Bündchen, Marc Jacobs, and Valentino — whose 2007 answer to her question, “I love beauty, it’s not my fault,” became the trailer and tagline for the Oscar-shortlisted Valentino: The Last Emperor, directed by Matt Tyrnauer.

Karen continues to develop new series and documentaries exploring the creative process and the culture of fashion and beauty.
