Lady Gaga loves Versace and has been a loyal fan.  Donatella  opened the Versace archives for the very first time for a music video to outfit Gaga in her 2011 “Edge of Glory” video, and Versace proceeded to dress Gaga for her 2012 Born This Way concert tour.  This year, Gaga paid her blonde pal back with a single on her ARTPOP album entitled “Donatella,” in which she sings, “Who’s that bitch, she’s so thin, She’s so rich, and so blonde, She so fab, it’s beyond…”

How much would you pay to meet Anna Wintour and be a fly on the wall at a Vogue photo shoot? How much would you shell out for a custom suit and fitting by Tom Ford himself? A style consultation over lunch with Tim Gunn? What about a Barbie custom-made in your likeness, valued by Mattel at over $10,000? Those are just some of the truly amazing donations from New York’s fashion community.

All proceeds from the online auction at luxury charity auction site (through April 28) will benefit the Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, which will funnel 100% of the monies it receives to front-line organizations assisting Japan’s short and long-term recovery.

Balmain has issued a statement confirming that it has parted ways with creative director Christophe Decarnin. “Since 1945, the house of Pierre Balmain has been one of the leading French and international luxury brands,” says CEO Alain Hivelin in the brief statement. “Christophe Decarnin’s work with the house’s design team contributed to the success that the brand has enjoyed in recent years.

Christophe Decarnin-Balmain Designer

Decarnin joined Balmain in 2005. His sexy rocker jackets, ripped t-shirts, jeans and thigh high mini dresses turned Balmain into one of the world’s hottest labels. But speculation about Decarnin has swirled since the notoriously shy designer failed to appear for a bow after his fall-winter 2011-12 ready-to-wear show last month. It was rumored he’d had a nervous breakdown and was in a mental hospital, but a spokesman for the house dismissed the speculation, saying Decarnin missed the show because he was resting on doctor’s orders.

As Cathy Horyn of the New York Times wrote this morning on her blog, attention now turns to who will replace Decarnin.  Stylist and designer Melanie Ward, who is said to have done much of the work for the Fall 2011 collection, appears to be the front-runner, but some fashion insiders aren’t ruling out a career change for former Paris Vogue Editor Carine Roitfeld.
