The beauty look of Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2013 show – ethereal, light and a bit haunted. Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury used Mac Cream Color Base in Luna on the cheekbones and eyelids to give the models a beautiful glow.  Paul Hanlon said that Prabal wanted the girl to look more innocent this time, almost angelic, so he kept the hair clean and very simple.  “It’s all about quality hair” this season.

Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2103 collection was inspired in part by the artist Anish Kappor.  As Prabal explained to me backstage – it’s all about the dress, “what is sensual and sexy to me – are dresses that are not so body-con. The whole idea of giving freedom to women is really appealing right now“.

Watch Prabal Gurung Spring Summer 2012 fashion show. Nicki Minaj wasn’t the only one blown away by Prabal Gurung’s sexy Spring Summer 2012 Collection in New York. We agree – this was one powerful fashion show. As Prabal explained to me backstage “It’s sexy, tough, confident and at the same time sensual“.

Prabal Gurung’s collection is exploding with color and the show was inspired by Nobuyoshi Araki sensual flowers series which Prabal incorporated into all those gorgeous prints. Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury said Prabal wanted the women to feel powerful and intoxicating which is why she drenched the models lips in five layers of pink, “it’s like a burst of a flower”.

Meet Prabal Gurung – New York Fashion Week’s Hot Star

Prabal Gurung’s collection is just over a year-and-a-half old, but he designs like a master.  The New York designer launched his first collection in February 2009 to rave reviews and won the Eco Domani 2010 Fashion Fund award and then was selected as a finalist for the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award.  He’s hot and one of the designers to watch at New York’s Fall 2011 collections.  His show takes place on Saturday, February 12 at 12 noon.

Prabal was born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu, Napal and he spent time working in London before moving to New York and working with Bill Blass and Donna Karan.  He brings an international sophisticated level of taste to his collections and he’s known as a perfectionist. Prabal loves women and thinks beauty with brains is what counts.  His attention to detail has made everyone from First Lady Michele Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Demi Moore a major fan of the designer.  We went backstage at Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2011 Collection and talked to him about what makes him passionate about fashion.
