Kendall Jenner takes us backstage at Fendi 90th Anniversary Couture show by Karl Lagerfeld at the legendary Trevi Fountain in Rome.

“It’s an amazing, timeless brand, every piece you see you can tell there is love and care put into it” Kendall said before the show. “I just think the brand is just so amazing, every time I get to work with them and I walk in and see the clothing, the shoes, bags and the accessories I’m always in awe”.

Karl Lagerfeld has been Creative Director for Fendi for over 50 years and explained the historic show at the Trevi Fountain was inspired by Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen “there is a kind of fairytale story because the theme of the collection is “Legends and Fairytales” it’s a feeling and a mood”.

The models walked on a plexiglass catwalk across the water with the famous fountains and pools form the 1960’s film, La Dolce Vita. This was the first fashion show to take place at the Italian landmark.

“In 2012 Fendi restored the Trevi Fountain, and we thought could you imagine if we could do a show here” Silvia Fendi explained backstage before the show, “it’s the best way to celebrate 90 years of stories”.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath did a stunning red jeweled mouths on all the models which must have taken hours to do. As she explains, “the girls were coming out of a garden and Raf said he wanted the girls to look like flowers in a modern way.  We did a shimmer on top of the eyes.  Really it was about the burnt orange, pinks and rose colored encrusted mouths“. In Paris the first Dior Couture show without designer John Galliano was presented at the Rodin Museum to mostly negative, biting reviews. This was the first collection by studio director Bill Gaytten, a studio assistant who came to Dior in 1999 with John Galliano. Sidney Toledano, the chief executive of Dior and Bernard Arnault, the chairman of LVMH were testing Mr. Gaytten for the role of creative director of Dior. They recently named Bill Gaytten the creative director of the Galliano brand.

John Galliano’s shoes are not easy to fill. Even with the the entire Galliano creative team in place – makeup artist Pat McGrath, hairstylist Orlando Pita, millner Steven Jones and Jeremy Healy on music this Dior Couture collection ‘failed to launch‘ according to many press reports including the New York Times. Video: Designer Karl Lagerfeld presented his Chanel Haute Couture Collection for Fall 2011 last night at 10pm because the designer wanted the Grand Palais to be flooded with moonlight. The collection had a sombre, seductive mood about it, inspired by the twenties and Coco Chanel – the focus was the tweed skirt suit. The set added to the mystery – the backdrop was a neon-limned mock-up of the Place Vendôme, and the floor was covered with a granite-like black surface which twinkled to resemble rain soaked pavements. John Galliano presented his stunning Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2011 collection in Paris yesterday to rave reviews. The show was decadent, seductive and beautiful and just what we need right now – a fantasy that makes us dream.

Galliano said his Dior Couture collection was inspired by René Gruau, the illustrator whose work for Christian Dior in the forties and fifties created the house’s most iconic imagery. The London Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander went backstage and spoke to Galliano about the look of the show.
