Jason Wu Fall 2013 Backstage

On Friday afternoon, even with threats of a severe snowstorm about to hit the city – it was still a full house at his show on the Upper East side.

As Cara Delevingne told me backstage – “this is really the show that opens NY Fashion Week…Jason is such a sweet guy, I just love doing his show – it’s always so elegant but cool”. All of the models feel the same way about Jason – they adore him because he knows how to make each one of them feel beautiful.

Jason Wu is only 30 years old. In just 6 years since launching his business, he has become one of the most important designers working in American fashion. Originally born in Taipei, he was raised in Vancouver, Canada and he now owns a very successful design studio in New York. He is First Lady Michelle Obama’s designer of choice and made her inaugural gown, which helped put him on the international map.

For Fall 2013 Jason Wu celebrated the beauty of a woman – focusing on femininity and strength. As he explained to me “I really wanted to propose the idea of femininity as seen through my eyes – it wasn’t about a complex concept or overreaching idea – it was about the idea of a woman – feminine clothes that women want to wear“.

“Fantastic, so modern, so fresh, so edgy and strong – I love his clothes“, supermodel Isabeli Fontana said backstage at Anthony Vaccarello Fall 2013 show in Paris. Isabeli is not alone in her adoration of the 31 year old Belgian born, Paris designer who is redefining what ‘sexy’ means in the 21st century.

In the past year Anthony Vaccarello has dressed some of the world’s most beautiful women. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen wore his black chain-mail mini to the Met Gala and Jennifer Lopez made international headlines wearing one of his provocative gowns to the Golden Globe Awards.

Everything about Anthony Vaccarello’s sexy, rebellious Fall Winter 2013 Collection is perfection from the the metallic chain mail dresses, to the impossibly cool boots and shoe he designed in collaboration with Stella Luna.

Backstage after his show Anthony explains his Fall 2013 Collection is not punk inspired, but rather “a 60’s mood seen through a 90’s eye”. The beauty look Tom Pecheux Estee Lauder’s Creative Director of Makeup created perfectly captured that spirit. Tom used two new wine metallic lip colors – Estee Lauder Pure Color Vivid Shine in Hot Lava and Plum Couture on the lips giving the models a look of sensuality and toughness.

Hair stylist Anthony Turner, styling ambassador for L’Oreal Professionnel wanted to create a “punky version of elegance” and used L’Oreal Volume Architect throughout the hair to create effortless updo like the “girl just did it herself “.

Michael Kors Fall Winter 2013 Collection is sexy, athletic and chic. As Michael explained backstage just moments before his show at New York Fashion week, “If you live an urban life it’s like being an athlete – life is fast and it’s all about movement. I really wanted to combine the quintessential uptown polish of NY, Paris and London and merge that with this athleticism, because why not have it all”.

The beauty look of Michael Kors Fall 2013 was inspired by the modern, graphic mood of the collection. Dick Page, Shiseido The Makeup Artistic Director, used a golden champagne eye shadow from the limited-edition Shiseido Eye Color Bar palette (which comes out this Fall) along the models’ cheekbones for a fresh glow, and to showcase the dramatic eye. The lip was a mix of the same pink cream shadow and Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Fantasia. The high ponytail that Orlando Pita gave the models was 50’s meets 90’s – he wrapped latex around the base to give the sleek, bouncy ponytails an edge of sexiness.

Get an exclusive first look at Rihanna’s Fall 2013 Collection for River Island which hits stores on September 12th. This is Rihanna’s second collection for the British based brand “I literally designed everything I want to wear—exactly how I want to wear it,” Rihanna explains in a video of the campaign shoot, which she wanted to exude a “New York Street vibe.”

In addition to the RiRi-tagged underwear there’s “G4Life” underthings and plenty of camouflage and leather pieces. The campaign features models Nayasha Kusakina, Tati Cotliar, Milou Van Grossen, Nayasha Kusakina and Ji Hye Park, and was lensed by Lachian Bailey.

His private invitation only press presentation at Milan Fashion week is a ‘must see’ event for the world’s fashion editors, models and celebrity clients like Janet Jackson.

Stella McCartney Fall 2013 beauty by makeup artist Pat McGrath and hairstylist Eugene Souleiman and go backstage with top models Bette Franke and Aymeline Valade.

The beauty look for Stella McCartney Fall 2013 was minimal but gorgeous. Pat McGrath used mascara in black on top lashes and brown on the bottom ones to emphasize the eyes, “it’s all about a beautiful lash“, Pat said backstage, adding that the look overall was all about groomed eyebrows and perfected skin. “It’s just very Stella, it’s very fresh.”

Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman said he was creating a look for the models that was “more handsome. “What we’re doing is this kind of almost men’s groomed look, but with a matte texture.” He used Wella’s Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Hairspray and the result was just so cool, effortless and chic. Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 backstage beauty with makeup artist Francois Nars and hair stylist Guido Palau and top models Cara Delevingne, Magdelena Frackiowiak, Jessica Stam, photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

The beauty look of Marc Jacobs for Fall 2013 “It’s a very underground, cool-girl look, but still very sophisticated“, makeup artist Francois Nars explained backstage at the show. “Marc always wants the girl to look sexy no matter what. He likes when the makeup looks a little destroyed“.

The hair look by stylist Guido Palau was inspired in part by a cut he had done on top model Edie Campbell for Vogue Magazine. Guido gave all the models haircuts like 80’s rock icon Joan Jett, “Marc was also referencing a girl in the 90’s called Kim Pierce who had a similar haircut – and then we got into Joan Jett and people like that. Marc liked the whole idea of deconstructing the glam he produced in his clothes”.
