Tom Ford Designer & Director

Designer turned Director Tom Ford has had quite a year. His 2009 Directorial feature film debut A Single Man has already won several international film awards and now is nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, including one for Colin Firth as Best Actor.

A Single Man is based on the Christopher Isherwood novel of the same name and stars Colin Firth as the protagonist George Falconer, a gay British university professor living in Southern California in 1962. Ford produced, directed and wrote the film and had to finance the movie himself as it was his directorial debut. A Single Man was picked up by the Weinstein company for distribution and will be widely released in early 2010.

With Oscar buzz surrounding him, Ford sat down with The Daily Beast’s Tina Brown and he candidly spoke with her about everything from why he left Gucci in 2004 to discovering his spiritual side. It’s a brilliant, revealing interview.
