For Maison Margiela Spring/Summer 2020 Co-Ed Collection, creative director John Galliano delivered a theatrical, dreamlike vision rooted in deconstruction and transformation. Presented in Paris, the show fused military references with romantic, fluid silhouettes, exploring themes of identity and reinvention through layered tulle, bold tailoring, and unexpected textures.

Legendary makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath amplified the fantasy with a radical beauty statement. Models emerged with ethereal, painterly faces—McGrath’s signature touch. Using expressive strokes of pigment in metallics and vivid brights, she created abstract, watercolor-like designs across the face. The makeup blurred the lines between discipline and decay, echoing Galliano’s narrative of “conscious hedonism” and fractured beauty.
