Chanel Spring 2013 by Karl Lagerfeld was the hot ticket of Paris fashion week. The show was staged at the magnificent Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées, one of the most historic sites in France.  From giant icebergs to the apocalypse, the themes of the sets are always extraordinary.  At Chanel you can expect to see an unforgettable fashion show and a look that pushes fashion forward.

For Chanel Spring 2013 Karl Lagerfeld brought a whole new energy and vibe  - installing 12 giant wind turbines with a solar panel runway to make his point that it’s time for a new mood of ease.  With models wearing almost 100 different looks, there was an atmosphere of serenity and tranquility on the enormous runway.  The Chanel Spring 2013 collection was fresh, airy, light and modern.

As Karl explained after the show he wanted a Chanel collection that “you could identify in a second”, but there were no braids, bows, no chains and no logos in sight.  The show was incredibly optimistic and the set underscored Karl’s vision of the future.  “It’s all about energy”.   Find out why fashion editor Godfrey Deeny,  Laetitia Casta and Leigh Lazark all agree Chanel is the greatest fashion show on earth. Milan Fashion Week:  Gucci Designer Frida Giannini knows how to deliver clothes that are ready to wear.   Her menswear collection for Spring 2012 strength is it’s just so desirable. From the cut of the narrow pants, to the tailored fitted jackets and the return of the bow-tie for evening – it’s elegant but cool.

I was thinking about Michael Caine of the ’60s,’’ Frida Giannini, the Gucci designer, said backstage to Guy Trebay of the New York Times before her spring 2012 show. “The unconventional, relaxed Michael Caine of “Alfie, the way he wore his suits with an open shirt.’’

The collection felt like it was made for young, fashionable guys like stylist and Bravo TV reality star Brad Goreski, who has made the bow-tie his signature look.  Goreski is currently in Milan reporting for Details Magazine and in the fall you will be able to see him on his new reality show on Bravo called It’s a Brad Brad World.

Milan Fashion Week: You can always count on designer Miuccia Prada to stir things up and set a new direction for fashion. The whole vibe at Prada’s Spring 2012 Menswear collection was quirky, eccentric and over the top. From the blue cube seats to the cartoon like, golf themed shirts and pants, Miuccia is once again encouraging men to be more daring, to wear color and experiment with fashion. Backstage before the show Muiccia told WWD that she wanted to deliver a carefree, happy and youthful collection.

The Prada man for Spring 2012 is an arty golfer who loves his kooky flower power print shirts and pants, golf caps and colorful golf shoes. We love the originality of this collection – watch the full runway show here now.

Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2012 Menswear Collection is built around one idea ‘The Net.’ The perforated net-like fabric was used either in transparent or lined in washed cotton poplin for jackets, trousers, Bermuda shorts, T-shirts, bomber jackets, tracksuits and sweaters. It was the most directional look of the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2012 collection – inspired in part from the fishermen in their native Southern Italy.

According to the designers, the idea was to update their sartorial roots, and involve the present generation in their fashion story. “We’re in the mood to experiment, to rework tailoring, making it modern and innovative,” Domenico Dolce said at a breakfast get-together with reporters before the show.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana know how to make men look sexy, but this season they kept it classic with crisp white shirts and tailored suits. There were plenty of new proportions – the pants were slighty shorter, the lapels on the jackets were gone and the whole look was fresh and strong. Milan Fashion Week: For Burberry Spring 2012 Designer Christopher Bailey decided to focus on arts and crafts. The Spring 2012 Collection is a real departure for Bailey, it had a real ethnic influence – he showed plenty of sweaters with crocheting, stitching, embroidery and handblock prints.

With this collection Bailey seemed to be turning his focus back on design, instead of the immediacy of selling the collection on the internet. Burberry has been at the forefront of the digital revolution that has swept designer fashion, live streaming its shows globally with almost 7 million fans on its Facebook Page.

I wanted to celebrate the idea of craftsmanship. I love the whole digitalization of the world. But I don’t think one has to be at the expense of the other,” Bailey said backstage to Associated Press after Saturday’s preview.

There was a slight nod to technology in the show the models in the finale carried alligator iPad sleeves. But this season Burberry’s native Scotland, too, had its due. Most of the outfits were topped with a hand-crocheted raffia golfing hat, complete with a pompon. Shoes were cork soled-moccasins or easy loafers at times contrasted with woven tapestry. Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall 2011 collection for Chanel was presented in Paris today at this historic Grand Palais.  The mood of the show was definitely down beat and had apocalyptic looking set.  Watch the fashion video courtesy the London Telegraph.

There is probably no other designer in the world who perfectly captures the mood of the season than Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. For Lanvin Fall 2010 Collection that meant projecting an image of femininity and strength. Hairstylist Guido Palau’s iconic, manga inspired black wigs and Pat McGrath’s dark smouldering eyes gave the models a uniform sensual look.

Everything about this show was exotic, intoxicating and beautiful. Alber Elbaz told us he was making a statement about individuality, about women around the world all looking the same.  He was posing the question,  “Do you like what you see when everyone has the same look?”.
